Do you have to brown the chuck roast before cooking in the crock-pot?
You do not have to brown the meat before putting it in the crock-pot. But I do recommend doing this additional step. It will be well worth the extra time. Searing the meat caramelizes the natural sugars and locks in the flavors.
How long does it take to cook Slow Cooker Chuck Roast in Crock-Pot?
Sear the roast in a skillet, 3-4 minutes per side. Cook on low in the crock-pot for 8 hours. If you are short of time, cook on high for 5-6 hours. I do recommend cooking on low if you have the time. Slow and low is the way to go!

Ingredients Needed:
Chuck roast: I prefer to use a chuck roast, it has more marbling which tends to make it more flavorful. If you like you can use a rump roast as well.
Yellow onion: Will turn even sweeter the longer it cooks.
Garlic: I like to use fresh garlic and chop it up small, to make it easier you can also use minced garlic in a jar.
Carrots: Tri-color carrots are what I used in this recipe. You can also use whole baby carrots or any carrot of your choice.
Beef broth: Creates a delicious gravy base.
Worcestershire sauce: Adds great flavor to the gravy.
Flour: Helps to thicken the gravy.
Salt, Pepper, Parsley and Thyme: Perfect blend of seasonings.
